Discussions

We spend a lot of time discussing the project with you to understand how you would like to use the space being designed, as well as your budget and any time pressure. We can also explore the relationship you wish to establish with the site, the climate and the local community.

As a tailor does, we use our expertise and experience to advise you on what is suitable and possible. We will also bring to your attention opportunities for your site which you may not have considered or thought feasible.

Once we have explored the options open to you we can begin to develop a vision that will express your aspirations.

Often, we will start by roughing up a few options that interpret your primary needs then you can choose the one which is the most appealing and relevant to you before we start working on the detail.

Throughout the design process, we communicate regularly with you to empower you to make decisions. Plans and sections are not always easy to understand so we will also produce images and descriptions to help you visualise the spaces.

All in one

Most projects will include aspects of design other than pure architecture.

We can provide you with full package of design services so that you can relax in the knowledge that all aspects of your project will work in harmony.

This is a cost effective way of commissioning different aspects of design. It means you have one point of contact to deal with so are not frustrated by bad communication; it saves money on multiple designers’ overheads; and ensures we achieve one coherent concept.

Most of these are done in-house, while others are subcontracted to our network of designers and consultants, as required. But we are always happy to work with new contractors and consultants.

 

Planning

Typically a building is set within the context of a society and obtaining support from the immediate community is fundamental for a successful planning process.

We establish a strong working relationship with the relevant Planning Officers and the neighbouring community from an early stage to avoid unnecessary delays. Together we will endeavour to reach a beneficial solution that satisfies their community’s needs and minimise conflict.

We will also deal with all other statutory approvals for you such as Permitted Development, Listed Building Consent and Building Control.

 

A team

Some buildings are more complex than others. As the vision grows, we will build a team of talented consultants, engineers, manufacturers and craftsmen who will be able to bring their expertise to your project as required. We will maximise their knowledge and experience to find elegant and efficient solutions for the challenges of your project.

 

Quality

We spend a lot of time upfront to resolve every detail of your project with the relevant consultant before sending it out for tender. This ensures practical and achievable solutions from the outset which will reduce the need for changes later and guarantees that the end result is built to the specifications we set out with you.

During the construction process, we will rigorously monitor the quality of the build against the contracted specifications and drawings, and deal directly with all involved to solve any unforeseeable problems that might arise. We will keep you up to date with the developments and involve you more closely as and when suits you.

We will also come back after a year to check how the building has performed during this time and advise on the elements that the builders must correct prior to you paying their final instalment.
